Gareon Conley intercepted Chase Daniel with less than two minutes remaining since the Oakland Raiders held off the Chicago Bears to win 24-21 from the first NFL game at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Chicago had fought back from a 17-point first-half deficit, scoring 21 points in the second quarter but rookie scored his second two touchdowns to go and Oakland held on.
Oakland started to come to life after both teams exchanged first possessions in which they prevented them from reaching range – and they attracted the audience with them.
Culminating in a 12-yard touchdown from Jacobs, Derek Carr led a 10-play drive as early dominance was claimed by Oaklands offensive line.
Carr began quickly, finishing the quarter eight of nine and Oaklands O-line paved the way for Jacobs to give Oakland a lead.
Then, following Nicholas Morrow picked off Chase Daniel deep in Chicago territory, Oakland climbed their margin. Oakland was given a new set of downs at the target line by A holding penalty on Chicago corner May Fuller, also DeAndre Washington hit it in from three yards outside – sprung by a block.
With Oaklands defense continued to hold solid, and the offense tacking on three more points with a 41-yard Daniel Carlson area goal, the Raiders took a 17-0 lead into the half – up 208 to 44 in total yards and 14 to two in first downs.
However, the Bears got the spark they had when a throw drama from Carr to Jacobs went horribly wrong.
After having been perfect up until there on offense, Carrs powerful throw went right through the rookies hands. As a pile of Bears swarmed to the ball, it was of course – former Raider Khalil Mack who developed the recovery.
Rookie back David Montgomery drove in from 1 yard out, as the momentum was ridden by the Bears on their next drive and the comeback lasted.
Daniel headed his group 89 yards to draw within three. An excellent, leading grab above a defender by Anthony Miller (for 32 yards) had the audience on their feet, and two plays later, Daniel rolled to his right, purchased time, and hauled across his body to Allen Robinson to get a four-yard touchdown.
It continued to become Bears as they pushed another punt, and when returner Tarik Cohen received the ball in his own 13, the moment he cut to his left that the Bears sideline was already on its feet with their palms on the air to take it all the way home to get a touchdown. Cohen was chased down, however his 71-yard sprint put him team up in the Oakland 16.
Daniel subsequently threw a pass into the corner of the end zone, and give their first lead of the day at 21-17 to Chicago and Robinson raised to return along with his second score of the afternoon.
The first fourth quarter has been with no dents, but packed with plays. After Trevor Davis raced for a 52-yard kick return that he was one yard from scoring with the end-around until Sherrick McManis hit out the ball, with Prince Amukamara.
Robinson somehow managed to exploit both his feet on the turf when falling to the ground and being forced out of bounds onto a miraculous 32-yard catch to provide Chicago room to breathe, and they pinned Oakland deep in their own eight-yard line with seven minutes remaining and also a four-point storm.
Then came the drive of the night.
The 92-drive was started by jacobs with a dashboard to get a first down, and he ended it over the Bears defense for the score with a two-yard dive. Oakland switched onto a fake punt, and Foster Moreau was heavily called the Raiders drove the length of the area with a variety of plays with Man of the Match Jacobs capping off it.
Chicago attempted to fight back with a single last drill, however, Daniel fired to the region of three Raider defenders, also just as Oakland kneeled to use up the rest minutes Conley came down with it to seal the win.
The Bears follow up their bye week with a stretch: vs Saints, versus Chargers, at Rams, vs Detroit, at Eagles.
Oakland will keep their stint on the road. They see before going home to host Chargers and the Lions at Weeks Nine and Ten, the Packers and Texans.
